We recently held a beautiful Bat Mitzvah Ceremony in our Shul.
The ceremony was the culmination of a twelve week learning programme where I met the girls at my home once a week to prepare them for becoming Bat Mitzvah.
The girls learned about Jewish womanhood with classes that included Challah baking with their moms and Grandmas, community service at the home for the elderly, touring the Mikvah, learning how to follow a Friday night service, meditations for Shabbat candle lighting and scrapbooking about what it means to become Bat Mitzvah.
Held on a sunny Sunday afternoon, the theme of the ceremony was "Making a difference" and each girl spoke about another inspiring Jewish Woman Hero of recent Jewish history, sharing the personal relevance of her story to their lives. They then connected the story to a verse from ‘Aishet Chayil’, the beautiful biblical tribute to the ‘Woman of Valor’.
I presented each girl with a silver candle stick with their name engraved on it. My husband and I both shared words of blessing and the ceremony was enhanced by the beautiful singing of our Chazzan Choni G (who also happens to be my brother) www.chonigmusic.com who, accompanied by his guitarist, sang relevant songs throughout the ceremony adding a very special and moving dimension to the event.
Following the ceremony all were invited to join the girls and their families at a most magnificent tea celebrating the special occasion.
I was very proud of all the girls; they each did a super job and it was great bonding with them and helping them prepare for this special time in their lives. Hopefully now when they come to Shul they won’t feel like strangers but right at home!
The decor was done by Seon from Event Interiors whose creativity never ceases to amaze.
Coffee Time supplied the most gorgeous cakes and and refreshments.
