Immediately after the special Pesach spent with the family I was back in
Cape Town preparing for the Shul Bat Mitzvah ceremony that took place two
days after Pesach.
It was a magnificent ceremony attended by close to 500 people and the
families and friends of the twelve girls truly deserved the Nachas they got
on the day!
Each girl is unique and special in their own way and as always it was a
pleasure getting to know the girls, helping them to prepare for this
significant milestone in their lives - an important pillar in the Jewish
foundation of these young Jewish women of the future!
During the ceremony every girl received a beautiful silver engraved Shabbat
candlestick, a gift that I hope will be used by the girls not only to
perform the special Mitzvah of lighting Shabbat candles on Fridays but also
to remind them that each one of them has the potential to be a Spiritual
lamplighter in their own right, radiating warmth, light and holiness to
their respective surroundings.
A big thank you to Avrons Caterers for putting together such a delicious
spread only two days after Pesach, to Choni G and his guitarist Rob for the
uplifting music and to Guy Lerner for the fabulous pictures!
